Every Grand Seiko release from Watches and Wonders 2024
Zach BlassGrand Seiko can often be accused of releasing a lot of watches at once, or a lot of watches in a small time frame. This year, however, Grand Seiko is presenting nine new references – which, for them, is rather contained. I may be biased in my Grand Seiko fanboy-dom, but there are some intriguing new models to explore this year with references introducing an entirely new dial pattern, the first new hi-beat manually-wound calibre in 50 years, and the first-ever Evolution 9 case in Ever-Brilliant steel – and in a new 38.6mm size! Oh, and there’s a brand-new Kodo, too.
SLGT005 Kodo Constant-force Tourbillon
- The Kodo is back with a new take on the GPHG-winning masterpiece first presented in 2022
- It’s all in the spirit of the brand’s theory behind light and shadow, with the 2022 model contrasting the brightness of the new release.
- Along with the brightly finished dial components and Platinum and Brilliant Hard Titanium combination, the SLGT005 uses pale blue sapphires as the bearings.

SLGH021 Evolution 9 Genbi Valley Limited Edition
- The Grand Seiko SLGH021 debuts a new Genbi Valley-inspired dial pattern in a light green hue.
- It is the first Evolution 9 model to be cased in their Ever-Brilliant Steel.
- Limited to 1,000 pieces and available beginning in June 2024 – US$10,400.

SLGW003 & SLGW002
- For the first time in 50 years, Grand Seiko debuts a new high-beat manually-wound calibre: the 9SA4.
- Based on the high-beat automatic 9SA5 with a dual-impulse escapement, 40% of the base calibre has been completely redesigned with a new movement-side power reserve indicator and other aesthetic changes.
- Two new Evolution 9 models in a new 38.6mm size house this 9SA4 movement, the SLGW003 in Brilliant Hard Titanium and the limited edition SLGW002 in 18k rose gold.

- The SBGW314 is another modern reinterpretation of the original Grand Seiko “First” from 1960
- Its rose gold case is paired with a navy blue dial to evoke a starry night and as a “special dial” the hands and indices are also solid gold.

SBGJ277 Snowy Valley
- The SBGJ277 is a new steel high-beat GMT watch with an aesthetic inspired by the “snowy valley” phenomenon.
- These high-elevation points, where snow remains in summer, have beauty through the contrast of the white snow with the surrounding greenery.
- This ultimately inspires the dial hue and pattern, along with the colours of the sapphire bezel.

- Its red dial utilises the lion’s mane pattern and displays date, power reserve, chronograph, and GMT indications.
- As a limited edition of 700 pieces, it uses the specially adjusted 9R86 Spring Drive Chronograph GMT movement.
